His Sweetness (No Comments)
I’ve been thinking, worrying, and doubting god a lot recently. Asking questions like, “Does he really know what he’s doing?” Or like, “Why does it seem like he’s abandoning me?”
Then, a recent church sermon, along with some quiet times really got me to think down a different path.
Why did Jesus call his disciples to “go” with only their clothes on their backs, and nothing else? Why did Jesus let his disciples set off in a boat, into the darkness, into a storm, across the lake for Capernaum…and not join them ’til later? Why would God let Joseph be sold into slavery by his own brothers? ALL BECAUSE THESE CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOWED THOSE INDIVIDUALS TO BETTER APPRECIATE HIS AWESOMENESS AND SWEETNESS!
Would his disciples have appreciated his awesomeness and sweetness as much if Jesus accompanied them onto the boat from the beginning, instead of walking on water and rescuing them from the storm? Would Joseph’s story been as powerful if God had made him Pharaoh’s right-hand man from the start?
I need to let God work! I really need to have faith that he is doing something great…and to just anticipate his awesomeness and sweetness.
Looking up with great anticipation,
Dan Lui

Losing but Gaining (1 Comment)
Today I lost everything on the external hard drive of my computer. I was crying all day, feeling ripped away from something important to me. As I was praying I felt shame, apologizing to God for getting emotional over something so silly, something materialistic. But I felt the Spirit fall upon me, letting me know, “I understand, Al. I understand that your computer had much on it that is part of you right now. Your school notes that you worked so diligently on, that has your stamp on them. The photos that you took of your beloved friends and family. The beautiful photos that you love. You feel like they are lost, but Al, smile! They are all stored in heaven for you! All those memories, I am keeping them for you. Right now is the time to let that go, and let me hold onto them.” And hearing this made me cry more, because of how miraculous God works. Better is one day than thousands elsewhere. Better is one day in your house, my God.
